HIV
In 2008, 33.4 million people worldwide were living with HIV, according to the World Health Organization. During that same year, about 2.7 million people became newly infected and 2 million people died from AIDS worldwide.
Recent studies have reported that people who had high levels of pre-existing immunity to the Ad vector will not mount as robust an immune response to the HIV vaccine as individuals with lower levels of pre-existing immunity.
Etubics AVVP technology can overcome the Ad5 pre-existing immunity challenge and induce a greater immune response to the HIV inserts, which may afford better protection from HIV infection. Immunogenicity studies of Etubics' vaccine have shown that it could break through the barrier of pre-existing Ad5 immunity.
Etubics is in pre-clinical trials for an HIV vaccine. These studies are fully funded by a grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
